Older names for this compound include blue vitriol, bluestone, vitriol of copper, and Roman vitriol. it is came in blue colour. 

Copper Carbonate is a water insoluble Copper source that can easily be converted to other Copper compounds, such as the oxide by heating (calcination). Carbonate compounds also give off carbon dioxide when treated with dilute acids.

 This off-white solid occurs in two polymorphs; impure samples can be green due to the presence of Cu(II) impurities. The compound is useful as a catalyst, in electroplating copper, and as a reagent in the preparation of nitriles

it is used as an insecticide, in the preparation of other chemicals, as a fungicide, and mildew preventive.
